Cézanne drawing collection in ManchesterPaul Cézanne: Les Baigneurs (Grande Planche). Courtesy Whitworth Gallery.
Visit Manchester before 1 March for the exhibition Cézanne at the Whitworth. The Whitworth Gallery now holds the best collection of works on paper by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) in Britain, one that now includes the generous gift of the late gallerist, author and publisher Karsten Schubert. The exhibition was conceived and developed by Schubert himself before his death last year and focuses on Cézanne’s drawings and prints. His lively, deeply personal drawings reveal a draughtsman of great range and complexity, whether working from Old Masters or exploring new themes. And also thanks to Schubert, the gallery now also holds a version of every print produced by the artist.
A 96-page exhibition catalogue is published by Ridinghouse, the publishing house founded by Karsten Schubert.
